Universal Fit Port-Vents™ Our Universal Port-Vents™ are designed to fit outside the frame of many popular sized portlights. They attach to the surface of the boat and not to the frame of the portlight To be sure our Universal Port-Vents™ will work for you, measure horizontally from outside edge to outside edge of the frame of your portlight. Our Universal Port-Vents™ are sized to fit outside the frame so the size of the Port-Vent™ is the inside horizontal dimension of the cover. The total width of our Port-Vent™ which includes the reveal and tape surface is approximately 1 inch more than the size listed. For example the 18 inch cover is actually approximately 19 inches wide from outside edge to outside edge with 18 inches of clear inside space to fit a portlight that is no greater than 18 inches from outside the frame edge to outside frame edge. The height measurement is top inside edge to bottom outside edge of the cover so make sure that you have enough space above and below the frame to attach the cover. If your portlight has a frame that extends outward from the surface it may interfere with the Universal Port-Vent™. The Universal Port-Vent™ is designed to fit over frames that do not extend more than approximately two inches beyond the surface of the portlight. Some boats have a recess in the surface into which the portlight is mounted; kind of a frame around the frame design. (see photo) If this is the case you may need to check carefully to see if there is enough flat surface for the Universal Port-Vent™ to attach. It would be pure luck if our Universal Port-Vent™ fit perfectly in the recessed space around the portlight. If your portlight is taller than the average, the Universal Port-Vent™ may not reach to the bottom of the frame and will be more like a partial cover. This will still provide some protection but may not keep out blowing rain, especially if the portlight is mounted on an upward facing surface. Check the full outside dimensions of the Port-Vent™ that will fit around your portlight and then check for interference with nearby obstructions. If the portlight you wish to protect is on the side of the cabin top, the distance from the bottom of your portlight to the corner where the cabin top joins the deck must also be considered. However, you can always install the Universal Port-Vent™ above the top edge of the portlight to accommodate this issue. The radius of portlights frames vary. Our Universal Port-Vents™ are a standard 3 inch radius. (i.e. the curve of the corner is the same shape as the outside edge of a 6 inch diameter circle.)
